I just finished a 20 minute meditation before writing this message. Wow, what a gift it is to give my nervous system a break in the middle of a busy day. My Transcendental Meditation (TM) practice is an extremely efficient means of getting deep rest in a short period of time. It increases my capacity during the rest of the day in all ways— intellectually, creatively, and emotionally.
I’ve loved and relied on many forms of meditation since I was a teenager. It’s my honor to currently lead a series in my Spiritually Human MeetUp group where we are exploring different types of meditation and then practicing together.
In the last gathering, I taught a simple form of mantra based meditation (of course inspired by my TM practice!). In our next circle on Wednesday, April 21, we will experience a somatic awareness meditation that teaches presence in the body with emotions and sensations. Knowing how to be with our bodies through intense feelings is extremely important for not turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms or needing to dissociate in some way from our own experience.
I have many other fun ways for us to meditate together coming up, including:
Heart opening
Grounding and connecting to Gaia
Meditation and prayer for people in need in the circle
Meditation to feel the collective and be present with current trends
Journeying to connect with helping spirits, guides, and ancestors
More silence, stillness, and presence— always.
Please join us to feel the benefits of meditating in community. It makes our practice feel more powerful and reliable. It also helps us integrate our spiritual selves with our tribe to provide a deep sense of belonging. Meeting and making new friends is encouraged too!
As always, feel free to respond with requests or feedback. Hope to see you soon!
Warmly,
Kelley
